VALVES, RADIATOR, HEATING
PACKED BONNET, CLASS 150 PSIG
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Type I; Styles A and B; Patterns 1 and 2: Services 1, 3, and 4; Classes 25, 60, 100, 125, and 150 of Federal Specification WW-V-160.
Abstract. This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers packed bonnet shutoff glove valves for use on radiators and convectors in steam and hot water heating systems with pressures of 25 inches mercury vacuum up to and including 150 pounds per square inch gage (psig).
Salient characteristics. Leakage thru valve stem shall be prevented by means of non-metallic packing (non-asbestos) in accordance with manufacturer’s standard practice. Valves shall be designed to operate at 150 psig working stream pressure and coincident steam saturation temperature. Valves shall be copper alloy conforming to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) specifications for materials. Valve disc and wheel handle shall be non-metallic. Inlet connection shall be threaded female. Outlet connection shall be threaded male tailpiece with union nut. Valve marking shall be in accordance with Manufacturers Standardization Society (MSS) standard MSS SP-25. Valves shall be of the following patterns, styles, and sizes:
Pattern 1 – Straightway
Pattern 2 – Angle
Pattern 3 – Left hand
Pattern 4 – Right hand
Style A – Stuffing box with adjustable packing nut
Style B – Stuffing box with spring loaded, self- adjusting packing.
